We have seen the Red Cross do tremendous work around the world and now it's time to focus our efforts on a special place in our hearts.

Our family and many people around the world are devastated by the news of the catastrophic earthquake in Syria and Turkey. What a painful day seeing entire neighbourhoods in our homeland destroyed and thousands of families fighting for their last breaths under collapsed buildings. Knowing there were children hugging each other after the first shake, not knowing that would be their last moment.

We are calling on all governments, organizations and relief efforts everywhere to help and support the people of Syria and Turkey. Let's show the world that humanity can come together in times of crisis to support one another.

Thanks to the generosity of Canadian Red Cross donors, the Government of Canada match of $10 million has been reached as of February 12, 2023. Your donation will continue to provide vital humanitarian assistance to people impacted by the earthquakes in Türkiye and Syria. Thank you for your support.

The Red Cross Red Crescent is working to deliver emergency relief and to get help to those impacted by the earthquakes as quickly as possible. Money raised will enable the Red Cross Red Crescent to provide immediate relief, ongoing recovery efforts and resiliency and preparedness activities in impacted and surrounding areas. The activities and areas impacted may evolve based on emerging needs and compounding humanitarian crises.

When we launch an appeal, donations made in response to it are used to help individuals and communities identified in the appeal recover from emergencies and disasters. The funds will be designated for the purpose for which they were given. In the unlikely event that we raise more money than can be reasonably and effectively spent, we will strive to use any residual funds for similar purposes and/or in a similar geography to respond to other disasters and humanitarian needs throughout the world.

The fundraising cost related to any emergency appeal will not exceed five percent.
